It can be very distressing if you have been accused of a breach of School policy, such bullying, harassment, or sexual misconduct. It’s important to be aware that the School will not make assumptions and will not consider a person ‘at fault’ until an accusation has been investigated. All those involved in a School procedure will be treated fairly and offered advice and support.

You may find it useful to consider these steps:

Don’t panic or take action that you may later regret.

Regardless of whether you think any allegations are justified or not, it is always best to take advice first and act second.

Familiarise yourself with the process.

If someone makes a complaint about you, there will always be a written process that will be followed in line with the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure (for students) or the City of London Corporation’s Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures (for staff). Please familiarise yourself with the relevant procedures and you can always seek advice from the Student Experience Team (for students) or HR (for staff). You should be fully aware of this process; asking questions about the process will never be linked to an assumption of wrongdoing.

Access support

For students:

All students are entitled to support from Student Services. As well as getting advice during the investigation, it is important that you consider getting support for your wellbeing. You will not be negatively affected by seeking support. If an allegation is made against you, you are encouraged to contact a member of the Student Services Team for support; you will be offered a safe and non-judgmental space to talk about your concerns and ask any questions. Ongoing support is available from our counselling service.

For staff:

Employee Assistance Programme supports the access to assistance programme within the City of London Corporation, and is available to BOTH you and those close to you, such as your partner or a family member. The EAP offers:

  • a telephone information service offering support and information regarding legal, financial and practical issues;
  • access to short term telephone counselling support.

The EAP is completely free, confidential and unlimited support (you can use the service as often as you need). It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Trade Unions - There are two trade unions, Unite and GMB, that represent staff at the School and can offer support to its members through issues that arise within the workplace, providing advice and representation to members during informal and formal processes and hearings, including grievances and disciplinary matters.

HR - HR Representative will be able to identify the support that’s available for you including City Corporation confidential counselling.
